Full Review
The Bosch WFMC6401 is an extremely efficient front load washing machine with a large 3.81
cu/ ft capacity.
It offers advanced cleaning technology and efficient use of water and
electricity. It is very quiet in operation and has convenient features such as
fabric softener and bleach dispensers.
The presets on the Bosch WFMC6401 include Delicates, Hand Wash,
Sanitary, Wool and Soaking. The XXTRASANITARY™ Cycle
is ideal for those who suffer from allergies. It heats up the water to 170º F
and maintains the temperature for exactly 3 minutes. After killing 99.9% of most
common household bacteria, the water temperature is reduced to a gentler 150º F
to prevent clothing breakdown. The clothes are thoroughly cleaned and sanitized
with no damage to fibers.
The Bosch WFMC6401 also features a unique AQUAGUARD™ Cycle which can
be used to wash water-proof clothes such as ski jackets and pants, rain gear and
other breathable outerwear.
This washing machine has a maximum spin speed of 1200 rpm which is great for
removing almost all excess moisture from the clothes. We found this to be a
great feature and really cuts down on drying time.
Water temperature is controlled with a built-in water heater which
heats the water to up to 155°F. The water
temperture is monitored with a Digital Temperature Sensor so that the water is
maintained at the most desirable temperature for the selected fabric type.
The Bosch WFMC6401 is amazing quiet, but we found that our test machine
needed to be installed perfectly level in
order to avoid excess vibration. This is in contrast with other Bosch models
that we tested that could be installed slightly off-level while maintaining a
quiet spin cycle. We don't know whether this is caused by a design difference or
whether our particular machine was somehow "off kilter." In any case, one the
machine was leveled properly it was as quiet as our other Bosch models.
The Bosch WFMC6401 is stylishly designed and comes with a two year Parts and Labor
warranty.
In Use
The Bosch WFMC6401 has an ample-sized capacity and the electronic sensors
make it extremely easy to use. The control panel is well laid out and very
intuitive. It does an excellent job cleaning clothes, and we appreciated the
extra deep cleaning of the sanitary cycle. Our only complaint was the excess
noise during the spin cycle when the machine is not properly leveled, but this
is a common problem with front-loading washing machines and the Bosch WFMC6401
is better than most in terms of noise. In fact, during the wash cycles, it's
hard to tell if the machine is running or not, it's so quiet. This washing machine is an excellent
performer and well worth the extra money.
